The costumes were incredible, the story very humorous, the actors enthralling, especially lead star Leah Morrow (Princes Winnifred), but truly all the actors did a magnificent job. The play was very professionally done, and had us glued to our seats. The stage had beautifully lit up colors and an ingenious moving center to the floor (which allowed for the artist to get on and off stage, in addition to using the four diagonal paths through the audience. The inside of the theater space is very pretty looking, gorgeous wall decorations and a neat interior design with the stage in the middle and seats on all four sides, and balconies above. There were plenty of ushers to show everyone to their seats, all very prettily decked out, which made waiting for the show to start rather pleasant. There was even a gluten-free & dairy-free desert !Īfter the meal we had plenty of time to check out the gift shops, there are 3 or 4 of them inside the facility, and after some elaborate exploring we found a very affordable and pretty necklace to match my outfit. I was impressed, most restaurants have a hard time taking care of my special needs. Lots of staff made it easy to get our needs met, there were people with tea and coffee giving us refills whenever we looked in their direction, and the woman with the bread basket to whom I said: "I can't eat this, I am gluten free" came back a few minutes later with two steaming hot and great tasting slices of gluten free bread. The food was great, I have a special diet and was catered to very well by our friendly waitress. The drive from Madison took about 45 minutes, the landscape was pretty and the Theater easy to find with several signs leading the way from miles off. The Fireside had what looked like a lovely offering so we booked tickets for a meal and performance of "Once Upon A Mattress" on a late Sunday afternoon. We were in Madison for a week and wanted a special outing. We were all family and adult people- no kids or teens. The choices supplied did not fit our group. Later in this review it asks who was with us. I can hardly wait for the next time we all go. Their voices were the best and the whole thing riveled the movie. The actors and actresses were well-chosen for the parts they played. The music and singing were spectacular! It was two and a half hours which flew by. I sat in the front row with my husband and sister. The others loved their entrees and by the time we came to dessert, we were so full that we had them box it up and we took it home. My meat was so tender, I could cut it with a fork. The mushroom soup (I cannot remember its name) was the best I have ever had. Our waiter was attentive and helpful, answering any questions we had about what was what on the menu. We had a table for six and had an excellent view of the dining room. I didn't have the mobility and time to visit them this time, but in the past, I have purchased clip earrings, sequined Christmas ties, sweat shirt, vase for holding flowers, ornaments, and other items. There is a fireplace, a bakery where their special breads are sold, and several shops. It is warm and cozy, but seems to extend forever. She waited patiently and did not leave me alone until the rest of our party caught up to me. When we arrived, our tickets were at the "Will Call" booth and a requested wheel chair was quickly provided along with a young lady to push me to wherever I wanted to go.
